Canopy is a pickup truck security system that delivers peace of mind by using AI-powered technology to secure the perimeter of the truck bed, capture video of suspicious activity, and send real-time alerts to the owner's mobile device and law enforcement.
Truck thefts don't end at the scene of the crime. Based on user research interviews with our Beta Pilot participants, we identified a desire to make the process of both filing police reports and insurance claims as painless as possible at a key moment in the user journey.
The most critical thing when filing a police report or insurance claim after a theft is evidence. Canopy's mobile app stores all recorded activity captured in the truck bed for future reference. According to Canopy's target customer personas, they value:
We identified a gap in the market with limited technological innovation in regard to quickly and accurately gathering evidence for theft claims/reports.
We set out to explore the feasibility of integrating police reporting and/or insurance claims processing within the Canopy activity log to allow users to easily file the necessary reports with accurate information and video evidence of the incident.
The "Activity Report" feature is identified as a "Performance Feature" in research. In the Kano Model, a performance feature is one that results in increased customer satisfaction.
The report directly addresses customer pain points that included reporting being time consuming, stressful, and overwhelming.
When considering the capabilities of integrating an "Activity Report" feature, we needed to understand the opportunities and limitations within both the insurance industry, and law enforcement before we could delve deeper into design.
Potential issues we had to overcome included whether our feature would be accessible to a majority of users (difference insurance providers, different law enforcement jurisdictions), and whether there was sufficient technological advancement in those industries to make filing directly from our app possible.
